Nyxe Mail — Mzed Studio case study
Email on your own domain with sender-based triage, team mailboxes, and safe access for AI assistants.
Overview
A full email service and client: our own mail infrastructure, not a wrapper around Gmail or Outlook, with web, desktop, and mobile apps on one backend.
The problem
Most email is ad-funded or buried in quoted replies. Nyxe gives people and teams an inbox on their own domain with no ads or trackers, and lets AI assistants work in it with scoped, approved access.
What we built
- Sender-as-channel inbox: new senders are screened once into People or Machines, and whole senders can be muted
- Snooze, send later, undo send, private notes on threads and senders, and full-mailbox search
- Team mailboxes like support@ with four access levels per member: read, organize, draft, send
- Built-in AI assistant access with OAuth consent, so Claude, Cursor, and others can triage and draft, with every action audited
- Assistant sends follow a policy you set (always, known contacts, or ask first), with an approval queue on web and mobile
- Real-time sync across every device, plus a public API with scoped tokens and a Raycast extension
